Already fallen behind on the NFL picks
September 22, 2008 | In Sports | No CommentsOi, so I had this big plan to actually try to keep up a weekly pick for this NFL season — something I’ve been meaning to do for years. But yeah after missing the first week, I jumped in on the second. I did pretty well, finishing with something like 9/15 — pretty stoked right?
So on Friday I had planned on going through and making my picks. That didn’t happen. I realized 10 minutes into the Vikings game that I neglected to actually make my picks. Of course the Vikes won, so I felt a little better about it.
At this point I’m wondering through if it’s work going through the motions week after week. It was a nice thought, but without some sort of competition attached to it — why bother?
NFL Week 2 picks
September 12, 2008 | In Sports | No CommentsI should have done this last week and I don’t know if I’m going to keep going with it, but I want to start posting my weekly NFL picks.
- Chicago over Carolina
- Tennessee over Cincinnati
- Green Bay over Detroit
- Buffalo over Jacksonville
- Kansas City over Oakland (ehum)
- Indianapolis over Minnesota (sigh)
- NY Giants over St. Louis
- Washington over New Orleans
- San Francisco over Seattle
- Tampa Bay over Atlanta
- Miami over Arizona
- Denver over San Diego
- NY Jets over New England (who would have thought)
- Cleveland over Pittsburgh
- Dallas over Philly
See you Tuesday.
Swinging away in Lynd and Benson
July 20, 2008 | In Sports | No CommentsThis morning I went out golfing with Alex, hitting 9 holes at Savannah Oaks in Lynd. It was my second round of golf this week, on Friday I hit the Benson course with my mom for 18. I’m slowly seeing improvements in my game, it’s just a shame some of the progress is really slow. I’ve been golfing for about 4 years now and I’m finally seeing the distance I’ve been looking for. I’m still not going to publish my scores though.
A few weeks ago Alex and I hit the Lynd course, it was my first time out there and I have to say it’s a beautiful place to play golf. Paved cart paths throughout, nice elevated greens and everything. Oh and a lot of water and beaches.
Alex and I grabbed a few photos during that round of golf. Check them out when you get a chance.
Congrats to Kevin Garnett
June 17, 2008 | In Sports | No CommentsI was a Minnesota Timberwolves fan at one point. Then they traded Kevin Garnett and they officially lost any faith I had in them. Tonight KG just won his first championship … with the Boston Celtics.
Congratulations Kevin, you earned it. Timberwolves, see I told you — you screwed up BIG TIME by trading him. He finished with the best team in the league and you finished as the worst. Go figure.
First Round 2008
May 25, 2008 | In Sports | No CommentsAlex and I went out to the Minneota golf course for nine rounds tonight. It was my first round with the new clubs I got for Christmas. I’d share my score, but it’s best left unsaid. The new clubs worked extremely well and I look forward to many years with them. Hopefully our next round will be more respectable.
Minnesota Pro Sports. . . a love and disapointment
December 11, 2007 | In Sports | No CommentsWe love our pro sports teams here in Minnesota. . . well some of them at least. As the Vikings continue to give us hope for a playoff birth, the Timberwolves have broken our hearts by trading Kevin Garnet. We lost Hunter to the Angels. Then there is the Wild. I love ‘em, but I’d be hard pressed to name one player. Sorry Per.
At any rate - I have the Chicago Bulls, I’m holding onto the Twins for now and the Vikings are giving me hope - just hope it’s not false hope.
Sports in Minnesota - it’s a wild (ehum) ride.
Watching the Vikings - in HD!
August 10, 2007 | In Movies & TV, Sports | No CommentsI’ve had my HDTV for a few months now, haven’t really spent a lot of time watching hi-def content because I’m pretty limited - and I have a standard def TiVo. There are a few things I switch over to the non-TiVo QAM Free HDTV stuff for - sports and some movies.
The Vikings pre-season games kicked off tonight so I decided to see if I could pick it up. Wouldn’t you know it, KSAX came through for me! I’m watching my first NFL game on the new TV! I’m planning on having my usual SuperBowl party this season and will get to show it off in HD. Alright, we have 3 minutes left in the first quarter and it’s scoreless. I’m going to go focus on the game.
68 is a lonley number
August 7, 2007 | In Personal, Sports | No CommentsHey dear reader, its been a while. I would have written sooner but work and leisure have taken up too much of my time and I’ve had to neglect you. I’m sorry, I’ll try harder to spend some time with you, I still care.
The week since the bridge collapsed in Minneapolis has been rather busy. While the worlds eyes were focused on events within a 3 hour drive, I was focused on stuff a little closer to home. The Lincoln County Fair kicked off on Thursday and went straight through Sunday. I was at the fair for at least a short time every day. With the exception of some rain over the weekend fair goers seemed to have a good time.
Ghent also did some celebrating. Belgian America Days included a large number of rolle bolle players and a fire hose soccer game that I unfortunately missed. I was a few minutes late and they already wrapped things up. The parade drew a large crowd though and lots of pictures were taken.
I also spent some time at the Upper Sioux Community Wacipi to wrap up the weekend. With the exception of a camera issue that was resolved on Sunday, the weekend was a success. I did miss one event, but one of my fellow Independent reporters was able to pick up the slack.
Today was the first day of FarmFest, marking the fourth year I’ll be covering the event. I didn’t go today, missing a number of key agriculture leaders, I instead was in county board. I’ll be in Morton Wednesday and Thursday though, so if you see me on the grounds at FarmFest, stop me and say hello.
In an effort to conserve hours, I took the afternoon off. Watched the new Ninja Turtles movie, which was excellent and a fun walk down memory lane. Well done movie. When 5:30 p.m. rolled around Alex and I headed out to the golf course in Balaton to embarrass ourselves. I’ll keep Alex’s final score on the 9 hole par 3 course a secret, but I on the other hand shot a 68 (I think). We walked the course, so of course now I’m rather sore.
At any rate, that’s what I know. Some people say I write too long, sorry for that. I hope you dear reader have enjoyed our little conversation and I look forward to hearing from you again soon.
Update: I found the score card and it turns out I hit a 63! I know that’s not much better, but it is a marked improvement over the 68 I thought I shot. So there!
