BloodRayne 2

BloodRayne 2Last year I Netflix’d the movie adaptation of a cheesy but fun vampire video game known as BloodRayne. It was directed by notorious film maker Uwe Boll, known for his campy movie versions of b-level video games. BloodRayne, Along in the Dark and House of the Dead have all received the Boll treatment with a few more coming.

BloodRayne wasn’t a horrible movie, but saying it was good would be an over exaggeration. It was fun watching the half vampire Rayne in the flesh as it were. I enjoyed it enough to think that maybe the sequel might be worth while.

BloodRayne 2: Deliverance was a pretty significant departure from the first film. Jumping from the mid evil period to the 1800′s of the American wild west. This new setting takes away much of what made the two video games what they were. Granted the second film took place in modern times, but in this western setting everything that was Rayne was missing.

Check out the trailer on YouTube.

I put the DVD in with fairly low expectations, but upon seeing the first five minutes I knew I was in for a horrible experience. After taking a 24 hour break following the 5 minutes, I decided to give it a shot and muddle my way through.

I couldn’t really tell you what the story of the film was, it had something to do with Billy the Kid serving as a vampire. Rayne gathers a gang and they rid the town of Deliverance of all the vampire baddies.

Boll’s movies always feel like they belong on the SciFi Channel with their campy effect, D-level acting and poor writing. They have their place for campy afternoon viewing, but BloodRayne 2 just felt a little rushed.

Boll has 4 movies for release this year, (likely most straight to video) including the film version of Postal. I can honestly say I have no interest in that movie, especially after seeing the trailer for it in front of BloodRayne 2.

I’ve always given Boll a shot, but after watching a handful of his films now, I think I’ve passed it through my system.
